I'm back!

Hi everyone! I'd like to thank everyone for their concern over the past week for my hospitalization. I would especially like to thank those who visited me in hospital during my short stay there. You guys really cheered me up and kept my mind off the pain! I am now well on the road to recovery and I will be having my stitches removed this Thursday.

For those wondering what happened to me, I'll just give a short explanation here. Basically, I suffered a spontaneous pneumothorax a few weeks ago. It happened when my left lung sprung a leak somehow and air started collecting in my chest, causing my lung to collapse. Patients with the condition are not supposed to fly but since I was too busy moving house before my return to Singapore, I did not worry too much about the slight discomfort I felt in my chest. Only when I returned home did I get the problem checked out by my GP and he referred me to take an x-ray which confirmed the diagnosis.

I was admitted into hospital where a procedure was done to insert a chest tube into my chest so as to remove the air trapped in my chest, allowing my lung to re-exapnd. Thus, I was stuck in bed for two days while a suction machine was hooked up to the chest tube. After 48 hours, the doctor removed the tube and confirmed my lungs had re-expanded by taking another x-ray. Thus, I was discharged from hospital with nothing more than some stitches on my chest to cover the hole that was cut to stick the chest tube in.

Yup, so that's about all and I'm really grateful to be well again! Thanks again for everyone's well-wishes and concern last week!
